Air Fried Chicken-Style Seitan

Seitan Made in Air Fryer - Oil Free Vegan Meat Alternative

Seitan is a great meat alternative that’s high in protein while low in fat and carbohydrates. It’s also less expensive than many store-bought plant-based meats, so it’s an excellent option for vegans on a budget.

Equipment

  • Air Fryer

Ingredients

  • 1 cup vital wheat gluten
  • 2 tbsp whole wheat flour
  • 1 tsp vegan poultry seasoning
  • 1 tbsp nutritional yeast
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1/4 tsp pink Himalayan salt
  • 1/8 tsp ground black pepper
  • 1 tbsp aquafaba (liquid from a can of chickpeas)
  • 6 3/4 cups water, divided
  • 1 vegan chick’n flavored bouillon cube

Instructions

  • In a large bowl, mix the gluten, flour, poultry seasoning, nutritional yeast, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and pepper together. Then, stir in the aquafaba and ¾ cup of water.
  • Knead the seitan dough together until the ingredients are mixed well. Then transfer it to a cutting board, roll it out, and cut it into 1-by-2-inch strips.
  • In a large pot over high heat, bring the remaining 6 cups of water to a boil with the bouillon cube. Once it comes to a boil, reduce the heat to medium low. Add the seitan strips and simmer for 30 minutes. Drain the broth from the seitan pieces when ready to transfer to the air fryer.
  • Put the seitan strips in the air fryer and cook for 20 to 30 minutes or until golden brown.
